The types of oil-free bearings mainly include gas-lubricated bearings, composite-material-lubricated bearings, water-lubricated bearings, solid-mosaic bearings, composite bearings, oil-containing bearings, and new single-lubricating-material bearings.
Gas-lubricated bearings use gas as lubricant. Common gas lubricants include air, nitrogen, argon, hydrogen, helium or carbon dioxide. These bearings use the transmission, viscosity, thermal conductivity and other properties of gas to form a complete gas film between the friction pairs to support the load and reduce friction.
Composite lubricated bearings use a special composite material, which consists of a metal substrate and a solid lubricant paste embedded in the holes or grooves of the substrate. During the friction process, the solid lubricant transfers to or back to the friction surface, forming a well-lubricated and firmly adhered solid transfer film, reducing friction and wear.
Water-lubricated bearings use water as lubrication and working medium, which not only saves a lot of oil, but also avoids the pollution of the environment caused by traditional oil-lubricated bearings. Water has the advantages of no pollution, wide source, safety and flame retardancy, and can effectively reduce the friction, wear, vibration and noise of the friction pair.
Solid inlaid bearings are made by inlaying solid lubricating materials such as graphite and polytetrafluoroethylene into alloy materials such as high-strength brass and tin bronze. The solid lubricant rubs against the shaft through frictional heat, forming excellent lubrication conditions where oil and powder coexist.
Composite bearings are usually made of two layers of steel plate and copper powder layer (bimetal), or three layers of steel plate, copper powder layer and self-lubricating material (such as polytetrafluoroethylene, PEEK, POM) + filling material. High-temperature sintering process is used to ensure the friction and wear performance and structural stability of the product working surface.
Oil-containing bearings are oiled during production and the lubricating oil is sealed inside the bearings to achieve a "self-lubricating" effect, avoiding the need for oiling and maintenance. New single lubricating material bearings include resins, ceramics, tungsten carbide, etc. These materials have the characteristics of high cost and narrow application range, but new materials are constantly being developed. These types of oil-free bearings are suitable for different industrial application scenarios, such as the transportation industry, military industry, construction machinery industry, etc., and have their own advantages and applicable conditions.
