What are oil film bearings? How to classify?

Oil film bearing is a radial sliding bearing that uses lubricating oil as the lubricating medium. It utilizes the dynamic pressure lubrication principle of fluid, that is, it relies on the oil film pressure established in the gap between the journal and the bearing to balance the load on the rotor.

Oil film bearings are classified as follows:
1. Classification according to load-bearing direction: it can be divided into two categories: radial bearings and thrust bearings.
2. Classification according to the principle of oil film pressure generation: it can be divided into two categories: dynamic pressure bearings and static pressure bearings.

The applications of oil film bearings are as follows:
1. In large hydroelectric generating units, oil film bearings are widely used to support the rotating parts of the turbine, such as the rotor. This kind of bearing uses the principle of dynamic pressure lubrication to form a stable oil film between the rotor and the bearing, providing good lubrication and cooling effects. It can also balance the load of the rotor and improve the operating efficiency and stability of the unit.

2. In metallurgical equipment, oil film bearings are often used to support high-temperature, high-pressure, and high-speed work rolls. Due to the harsh working environment, bearings are required to have high temperature stability, wear resistance and corrosion resistance. Oil film bearings can meet these requirements and increase the service life and reliability of equipment.
